4 Reasons to Choose a Wooden Bed Frame Instead of Metal

Of all the pieces of furniture in your home, the bed is arguably the most important. After all, you'll almost certainly spend more time using it than any other piece of furniture, and the difference between a good bed and a bad bed can mean waking up feeling energized and refreshed or finding yourself still feeling tired even after a night's rest.

As such, it only makes sense to spend some time considering the right material for your bed. For most people, this comes down to wood vs. metal. Both have their own benefits and drawbacks, but here are just four reasons you might find a solid wood bed frame more attractive than a metal one.

1. Wooden Beds Aren't Likely to Squeak

Nothing can ruin a good night's sleep like a squeaking bed, and such noises can also become off-putting when you're being intimate with your partner. While metal beds are very strong, they're often susceptible to squeaking since even minor metal-on-metal contact will produce noise that becomes worse over time. Squeaking is far less likely with a wooden bed frame, so you won't have to worry about annoying noises interrupting your sleep.

2. Wooden Beds Are Generally Sturdier

At first, it can seem as if metal would make a sturdier bed frame than wood. After all, metal is almost always a stronger material than wood. However, wooden bed frames tend to be considerably thicker than metal bed frames—in fact, metal frames can only be made so thick before they become far too heavy. Since they're usually thicker than metal frames, wooden frames are less susceptible to movement and provide superior support.

3. Wooden Beds Are More Eco-Friendly

Eco-friendliness is becoming an increasingly important concern when buying furniture, and here again wood beats out metal for bed frames. Wood sourced from FSC-managed forests is sustainably grown from a renewable resource, and the growth of that wood actually helps the planet by capturing and storing carbon.  Additionally, wood furniture is generally far easier to recycle than metal furniture.

4. Wooden Beds Generally Last Longer

Wooden beds are often a tiny bit more expensive than metal ones, which are often made with cost-effectiveness in mind. However, wooden beds generally last longer since there are fewer weak points. Then there's the fact that wooden bed frames offer a more timeless sense of style that fits with most design styles. Those benefits mean you're less likely to need to change the bed as you change the rest of your bedroom or even move house.
